Renishaw is actively seeking to recruit an experienced applied physicist, applied mathematician, computer scientist or mechanical engineer to join the expanding/small acoustic systems technology team based in the Edinburgh office. This is a technical R&D role that would suit someone with a good understanding of acoustics/ultrasound theory (e.g. wave propagation models) with strong mathematical ability (e.g. coordinate geometry, signal processing, modelling and/or analytics), as well and advanced skills and recent experience in Matlab programming.
The successful applicant may expand the role to work on a range of novel single channel and array acoustic/ultrasonic systems and will be able to develop his/her own professional skills as a specialist acoustic systems design engineer and/or a more dedicated software engineer within the Group Engineering Division. This opportunity is based in Edinburgh with occasional travel to sites in Gloucestershire.
•Design, Implementation and testing of matlab applications for automated NDT inspection probes.
•Performing calibration and metrology testing for acoustic systems which form part of a robotic platform.
•Quantitative Data Analysis for System Performance assessment.
•Software requirements capture and specification.
•A degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Acoustics or Engineering.
•Some background in Acoustics (e.g. Sonar, Ultrasonic NDT, medical ultrasonics)
•Strong Programming Skills (knowledge of Matlab is essential).
•Experience with Matlab GUIs and graphical simulation.
•An understanding of acoustic wave propagation and ultrasonic sensing methods.
•Experience of Simulation Methods.
•Knowledge of Signal and/or Image Processing techniques.
•A Post-graduate degree (e.g. Masters or PhD) in a related subject.
•Object-Oriented Programming (e.g. Matlab Classes).
•Programming Skills in C / C++.
•Knowledge of Metrology methods and experience of metrology Platforms/Software.
•Knowledge of acoustic Ray-tracing models and/or Finite-element models.
•Experience building GUI-based graphical simulations in Matlab.
•An understanding of the Systems Engineering lifecycle and methods.
The successful candidate will have:-
•A strong academic background in a relevant subject.
•Industrial experience (e.g. Aerospace, Defence or Medical).
•An aptitude for mathematics and statistical/analytical methods.
•An aptitude for clear, methodical thinking and an attention to detail.
•Clear and confident communicator in written and spoken English.
