  • Overview

    Renishaw is a company with worldwide markets and is committed to innovative product development for precision metrology applications. Current products include laser interferometer and “time of flight” measurement systems and various electro-mechanical transducers.


    This business is creating new and challenging opportunities for mechanical engineers within the current product engineering group based within the Laser Calibration Products Division.

    • Development of system components including precision opto-mechanical assemblies and alignment mechanisms capable of measuring to sub-micrometre resolution.
    • Develop prototype testing and analysis of data to support the design.
    • To investigate product performance issues, providing solutions to a timescale.
    • Design test jigs and fixtures for use in manufacturing.
    • Working closely with manufacturing engineers to ensure best practice for manufacture and assembly.
    • To prepare reports and specifications.

    Key requirements

    • Educated to at least degree level in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering degree (2:1 or above)
    • Able to demonstrate achievements in the design of machined and moulded components and assemblies.
    • Capability communicate design solutions to level suitable for knowledge transfer.

    Desirable requirements

    •  Expertise in the use of 3D CAD, preferably Siemens NX.
    • Familiarity with core analytical analysis technigues eg degree level applied maths, six sigma etc.
    • An aptitude for design suitable for assembly and test
    • An appreciation of optical metrology systems.
    • An aptitude for problem solving

    As the successful applicant you should be able to demonstrate a practical approach to design, good problem solving skills and an attention to detail.  You should demonstrate an ability to work as part of a multi-disciplined team where output is subject to team scrutiny and communicating effectively will be key.  The role will at times require a  “hands on” approach.
