Group Engineering are recruiting a Senior Electronic Design Engineer (Analogue) to support current and future product development of a variety of Renishaw products including probes, sensors and controllers, plus laser products and advanced process feedback. Initially the role will be to review the current designs and support ongoing development, working with the current Group Engineering hardware team and where appropriate, the divisional team to support development and derivative products. There will also be a need to interact with other engineers, graduates and apprentices within the group and other divisions.
As a senior engineer specialising in analogue design there will be an opportunity to further develop the design processes, simulation and training courses for delivery across other divisions, including reviewing design tools and methodologies. The use of EDA tools and knowledge of an electronic design process is an essential requirement as is an understanding of the current CE legislation and directives for compliance. Therefore, a background of successfully designed products and knowledge of current electronic devices and techniques is essential.
Within Group Engineering (GE) there will be opportunities to be involved in research and development projects which may include tool and device evaluation, for both GE and other divisions. Opportunities exist for an individual to excel at supporting the analogue design methods and processes, providing support where appropriate across the business.
• Electronic design and development experience for current and new products
• Analogue design experience and knowledge including design, layout and manufacture
• Report writing and excellent communication skills
• Good technical knowledge
• Ability to support engineers, graduates and apprentices
• A degree (or equivalent) in electronics or associated discipline
• Ability to use EDA tools including: Zuken, Altium or similar
• Good Technical knowledge of:
o Transducer design and theory including mechanics; capacitive, inductive and resistive
o Transducers for displacement, force and temperature
o Low power techniques, including battery power supplies
o Low noise techniques
o Precision transducer signal conditioning and digitisation, especially carrier methods
o Analogue and digital filters
o Optoelectronics for data transmission and light measurement
• Capable of problem solving and determining root cause
• Practical skills to include soldering and use of instrumentation
• Low power positioning servo systems, up to 100W and of higher power
• FPGA and VHDL
• Embedded software and deployment in systems
• Advantage if additional knowledge of:
• LT SPICE, Ansys, Matlab, Simulink, Aldec ActiveHDL, Intel (Altera) Quartus
• Experience of working closely with mechanical, optical and software engineers
• Product development knowledge, PCB layout and commissioning
• Design for test and manufacturing
• Compliance and EMC knowledge
