A vacancy has arisen in the Technical Publications group for a Technical Author. The position would suit a person who has a background in technical writing in a very busy technical publications environment. Consideration will also be given to candidates with the relevant background who are looking for a move into technical publications.
Reporting to the Technical Publications group leader, the successful candidate will be a highly-motivated self-starter with responsibility for writing, revising and organising the production of guides and manuals for hardware and software products in a wide variety of languages.
•Produce technical publications for complex high-precision devices and systems
•Work closely with our various product divisions to develop new end-user documentation
•Write, revise and organise the production of guides for hardware and software products
•Work closely with the Language Services department to produce documents in a wide variety of languages
•Manage their own work allocation to achieve agreed product plans and introductions
•Ensure publications produced are to the company’s approved in-house style guide
•Education to HND level (or equivalent) in Mechanical/Electronic engineering, or relevant experience
•A background in technical writing
•A history of working in a very busy technical publications environment
•A demonstrable ability to write clear, concise technical English
•A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Acrobat
•A working knowledge of graphics packages such as Illustrator, Photoshop and CorelDraw
•Familiarity with HTML
•Some knowledge of foreign languages
As the successful applicant you will be a highly-motivated self-starter, with a well-organised and structured approach to developing and validating publications. You must demonstrate an ability to manage a varied workload covering multiple projects simultaneously, and be capable of maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. In addition you will be a good team player, able to contribute to all aspects of a busy technical publications department. Finally, the ability to communicate proficiently in all respects and at all levels of the business is essential.
