  • Overview

    In product development, you will generally need a technical or scientific background to understand the design and contribute fully to the team. This is a varied role involving a mixture of day-to-day administration, following and developing processes, planning and strategy. You must be comfortable, or able to become comfortable, communicating with people at all levels of the organisation.
    Starting in this role, you would need to learn skills like: influencing without having authority, negotiating with internal and external suppliers, and thinking in a structured way for planning, problem solving and process development.


    Core knowledge


    Graduate Project Coordinators will gain understanding of:


    Traditional project management skills and methods

    • Work- and product-breakdown structures
    • Network diagrams and Gantt charts
    • Critical path and critical chain
    • Project cost reporting and forecasting
    • Project risk assessment


    Working with people

    • Leadership and coaching styles
    • Team roles
    • Influencing
    • Communication – oral and written, presenting to groups and one-to-one


    A wide knowledge of processes used throughout the Renishaw Group, including those in:

    • The New Product Development Process
    • Design
    • Patents
    • Manufacturing and test
    • Materials management
    • Service centre
    • Marketing, business development and sales
    • Finance, IT, legal and personnel


    Opportunities for project coordinators may exist in the design, manufacturing, healthcare or corporate environments.
    Promotion in this stream would likely lead you to manage increasingly complex products and projects, before moving into an Operations Management or cross-divisional role.
