  • Overview

    Renishaw’s Group Engineering Division in Edinburgh are looking for an experienced Senior Electronic Technician.

    The successful candidate will support industrial metrology and additive manufacturing product design teams with new product development, production equipment and test work.



    • Design, layout and testing of prototype PCBs and electrical/electronic systems
    • Soldering and fault finding on PCBs
    • Carry out component sourcing and evaluation
    • Technician work at low voltage and mains voltage

    Key requirements

    • Minimum HNC/HND in electrical/electronic engineering or equivalent
    • High degree of manual dexterity
    • At least 5 years’ experience in a relevant role
    • Understanding of electronic principles and calculations – e.g. Power Dissipation
    • Competent electronics CAD/CAM user
    • Ability to read mechanical/electrical/electronic drawings and interpret component datasheets
    • Experience using hand tools for soldering PTH and SMD
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Methodical & organised approach with attention to detail & accuracy
    • Computer literate
    • Pragmatic

    Desirable requirements

    • Ability to handle complex multilayer, controlled impedance and high speed digital designs
    • Familiarity with electro-optics or optical systems
    • Clean room experience
    • Familiarity with Altium and/or Zuken PCB tool chain.
    • CNC PCB router experience
    • Experience using power tools
    • Process improvement experience
